Strengthen Your Core and Feel Better All Over
Pilates is a system of movement and exercise that strengthens the muscles that support the spine. The Pilates movements educate, repattern, realign and bring balance into the body. To assist in strengthening the spine, emphasis especially is placed upon elongating and strengthening the neck, shoulders, abdominals, hips and thighs. By strengthening the spine, we decrease tension, increase flexibility and strengthen the body from the inside out.
Pilates classes especially are helpful for persons rehabilitating from an injury, and to help reduce chronic back pain. It also can be a good challenge for those just getting into shape or training for an athletic competition.
At RYAH, our Pilates mat classes are among our most popular classes. Joseph Pilates, the originator of Pilates, initially developed the method for the mat. He later created the machines to supplement the mat work and support those who did not have the core strength to perform the movements unassisted.
